SAM
System for Award Management
Definition
The System for Award Management is the official government website where entities must register to do business with the federal government. SAM.gov registration is required before a company can receive a federal contract, grant, or cooperative agreement, and must be renewed annually to maintain active status.
SAM combines several former federal procurement systems (CCR, ORCA, EPLS) into a single platform. Registration captures entity information including DUNS/UEI number, CAGE code, NAICS codes, bank account for electronic payments, and representations and certifications. SAM also hosts the Exclusions database (formerly EPLS), contract opportunity postings, wage determinations, and entity validation services.
