Request for Equitable Adjustment

Definition

A Request for Equitable Adjustment is a contractor's written request for additional compensation or schedule relief due to government actions or changes that increase contract costs or performance time. REAs are submitted when the government has caused additional costs outside the contractor's control.

REAs must be supported by documentation of the government action, its impact on performance, and quantified cost and schedule effects. Contracting officers review REAs and negotiate fair adjustments when justified. Timely REA submission preserves contractor rights, as failure to request adjustment within specified periods may waive entitlement.
