GFE
Government-Furnished Equipment
Definition
Government-Furnished Equipment refers to equipment owned by the government that is provided to a contractor for use in performing a contract. The government retains title to GFE, and contractors are responsible for its care, maintenance, and return at contract completion.
Contracts specify what GFE will be provided, delivery schedules, and contractor responsibilities for maintenance and reporting. Contractors must maintain property records, conduct periodic inventories, and report loss, damage, or destruction. GFE provisions affect contract pricing because contractors do not need to acquire or depreciate the equipment.
