CAP
Corrective Action Plan
Definition
A Corrective Action Plan is a formal document that identifies deficiencies in contractor performance, specifies the root causes, and outlines the actions the contractor will take to remedy the problems and prevent recurrence. CAPs are typically required when the government identifies significant performance issues or contract compliance failures.
Effective CAPs include specific corrective actions with responsible parties and completion dates, metrics to verify effectiveness, and procedures to sustain improvements. Contracting Officers may require CAPs in response to CPARS evaluations, quality deficiencies, or audit findings. Failure to implement adequate corrective actions may result in cure notices, termination, or negative past performance ratings.
