APM
Assistant Program Manager
Definition
An Assistant Program Manager supports the Program Manager in overseeing all aspects of a government program or major contract effort. The APM typically manages day-to-day operations, coordinates with technical teams and stakeholders, and may assume PM responsibilities in the PM's absence.
APMs often focus on specific functional areas such as technical performance, business operations, or schedule management. On contractor teams, the APM role may be a proposal requirement, with qualifications and experience evaluated during source selection. Effective APMs maintain program continuity and provide depth to the management team.
